Hands Across the Water commenced its work in 2005, and the position at the time was that 100% of the donations went directly to the children of Baan Tharn Namchai. The fundraising that I conducted in those first couple of years was different then what a traditional charity might employ and as such I was able to avoid or personally cover those fundraising and administration expenses. The children from Baan Than Namchai Foundation attended the Photography Training camp conducted and sponsored by DIAKRIT, a long time supporter and dear friend of Hands. The camp was set up to provide the kids from all of the Hands projects, the opportunity to learn how to utlise ipad technology for photography. Read more
The kids have been spending time recording dance performances and Loy Krathong ceremonies ahead of Hands Big Night In. They are so excited about the anniversary of Hands Across the Water and have shared many messages of congratulations to all of the generous supporters and Hands community. Our small family at PAMA house have been keeping busy with activities this month. The ages of the kids at PAMA House range from 3 years old to 21 years old so as you can imagine it is always a difficult task trying to come up with activities to suit everyone. On the 2nd August, Victoria was declared in a state of disaster and Stage 4 restrictions were put into place immediately so we wanted to wrap our arms around our friends and stand with them during lockdown through this latest initaitive. Read more
The girls and young children at New Life Project Kanchanburi have been busy learning and enjoying fitness activities during the period of lockdown. Our English lessons continue to provide a space for the children to learn and the project Psychologist developed a program for the children that included activities for changing behaviour and promoting development. When 54 year-old Mick Campbell decides to take himself out of his comfort zone, he really decides to take himself out of him comfort zone. This Saturday will see him embark on a gruelling 36 hour, 800km cycling challenge along Sydney’s M7 bike path. To put this challenge in perspective, it’s the equivalent of cycling from Sydney to the Gold Coast. Mick’s mission is to support Hands Across the Water, which raises money for disadvantaged children and their communities in Thailand. Read more
Over recent months, the kids have remained at home as the local Phang-Nga Social Development and Human Security requested cooperation to quarantine all children and some staff - with no outside activities occurring - to reduce the risk of Coronavirus infection (Covid-19). Read more
As any family could imagine, even having two kids in one home can cause quarrels, competition and anger towards each other at times. It's a natural developmental process for kids as they grow and mature and figure out who they are in the world. On top of this, a lot of our kids have experienced significant emotional and physical trauma in their short lives which can bring about development and mental health issues. Read more

The aim of these agricultural activities are for all children living at Baan Tharn Namchai and the villagers in the local community to visit and learn about organic farming, as well as being an additional source of income for the home, from the sale of surplus produce at the local markets. Margaret Grant had planned to take a 6-month break from her teaching job in Tipperary, to travel around Asia. Instead, she volunteered to be a Teacher Volunteer for the Hands English program and has been placed at Baan Home Hug in Thailand. Read more
We know that it is incredibly important that children, regardless of what the family they are born into looks like, have the opportunity to be exposed to education early. Delaying access due to economic hardship or leaving their formal education early as pressure builds to contribute financially to the family can have a lifelong impact. Read more
